World's Largest Swimming Lesson teaches safety, skills while attempting to break record Posted: 14 Jun 2012 11:16 PM PDT Several hundred people took the plunge Thursday in Detroit for what was dubbed the World's Largest Swimming Lesson, an attempt to break a Guinness World Record while teaching swimming skills and raising awareness about drowning hazards. The inaugural worldwide event in 2010 established the record with 20,000 participants representing 13 countries and 45 U.S. states.
